Hi, I’m Jackie.

I’m an Ohioan living in Florence since January of 2014. Educator by day, amateur cook by ALL THE MONTHS OF LOCKDOWN. I live with my partner, Massi, in a small apartment on the west side of town and we’re in the process of renovating an historic home and are hoping to have our twice-postponed wedding in the near future.

During the months that Italy was on lockdown and I was on the Italian version of “furlough”, cooking and baking were the things that kept me from slipping into a deep dark hole. Having something to start and finish every day felt like progress and gave me some semblance of “normal”. Sometimes distractions are exactly what one needs to come to a new insight. In my case that meant starting to keep note of things going on in my life by documenting them here. Not only to keep people up-to-date with the happenings of my life (i.e. mostly what I’m eating), but also for my own crappy memory that can’t seem to recall most life occurrences without photographic proof.
